361 Covington Drive, The Balmoral Apartments--Detroit MI

The Balmoral Apartments were designed by noted local architect Robert West. The building was one of the first in the Palmer Park area to have corner windows. This Moderne style building has contrasting bricks with horizontal stone trim at each of the corner windows. The roofline is edged with stone, as well. In the context of the eclecticism of most Palmer Park apartment buildings, the Balmoral is noted for its perfectly symmetrical facade. The New York Times November 28, 2010 declared casement windows are architects new darling...a tribute to pre war architecture.
