Ita s been a marvelous day. Betsya s back, we found an unexpected house sit, Byron was brilliant in his class, a horse licked my tripod not a euphemism , and Ia m about to have a glass of wine. I got a call at 8.30am from the mechanic saying Betsy could be picked up. I drove to the garage in the house ownera s 4A 4. It has a funny little characteristic in that when you unlock the door, you only have about a half a second to open the door before it decides to lock again. Since I was intending on haggling the price with the guy, I had my confident strong face on. I learned it when I was in the East. Rachel said I look like Ia m sniffing something. I actually think ita s more of a a Ia m not pleased with anything youa re saying right nowa face. All of this was pointless. As I pulled up to the garage he was waiting for me. Composing myself, I tried to get out of the car. I couldna t. It had locked me inside. If youa ve ever jammed your head in anything, youa ll know the sudden panic that one can feel in these situations. I was frantically trying everything a windscreen wipers, radio, seat belts a nothing worked. Would I live in there foreverY How could I live a normal life in a 4A 4Y Eventually I wound down the window, unlocked the door with the key, and got out. I looked up and saw the mechanic in tears of laughter. Stupid car. Betsy looked beautiful, and her brakes were as firm as any Ia d pushed before. All for a whopping 220 euros. Byrona s class was excellent. Last time he went crazy, pulling, pushing, jumping just to interact with the other dogs. This time he was so well behaved. I felt like a proud parent. We met an older English fellow there who was taking over the dog training duties from his wife this week. He had a little monologue that made me do an inward laugh. It went like this a Ia m doing the training today, you see. But, the thing is, I dona t like dogs. I mean, I love this one, of course a shea s grown on me, but Ia d prefer she wasna t with us at all.a You meet some great characters out here. Our unexpected new house sit came during coffee time at the dog training. The other dog owners realised that we were house sitters, and being a group of Britons, they all became extremely interested in our services. One even asked a How much do you chargeYa My head was thinking a We can chargeYa My mouth was saying a Oh no, we dona t charge. ita s free.a My mind then thought a idiot a . By the end of the class wea d handed out our contact details to everyone. We had no idea there was so much demand over here. This weekend we were free, and although we had planned on spending three nights in Bordeaux, we will be house sitting someonea s place for a few days instead. Then wea ll be spending one night in the city. Ia ve rambled on enough. For the horse that licked my tripod story, therea s not much more to it than that. It was intrigued by the camera clicking sound, came over, licked the tripod, I petted it, then I ran away. Rachel shouted at me for petting it because Ia m old enough now to know that I have terrible horse allergies that enlarge my face.
