The Stuber Stone Building was constructed in 1916 as a Columbia Motors dealership. It was during this period that Cass Avenue emerged as Detroit s automobile row. The architect is not known, but it could have been a staff member of the A. J. Smith Construction Company, which erected the building or someone associated with developer David W. Simmons. The architectural detail of terra cotta lions with shields along the frieze is a highlight. After falling into disrepair, the building was in the first wave of Cass Avenue rehabilitations. It now offers commercial and loft living space The Stuber Stone Building is a contributing property to the National Register and City of Detroit Willis Selden Historic District and is individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. 71288712 N00 has added Stuber Stone Building, 4221 4229 Cass Avenue Detroit MI at 2012 05 01 00 00 00 and tagged as commercial storefron
