Estação Abandonado

national railway company portuguese southbound trains system rail traffic terminal station 25 abril lower deck tejo abandonado setubal protagonist dear friend lisbon office space alfa travellers porto portugal

Europe, Portugal, Setubal, Barreiro, abandoned railway station slightly cut . In the days when the Portuguese railway system consisted of two unconnected parts, separated by the river Tejo, Barrreiro was the station where all the southbound trains started. Going from Lisbon to the south by train involved taking a ferry fiirst. Both for Portuguese and foreign Interrail travellers the station is a protagonist in all kind of travel and holiday stories. When in 1999 the Ponte 25 Abril was made ready to carry trains on its lower deck, Barreiro station lost a major part of its rail traffic since the trains from the south could cross the Tejo now and terminated in Lisbon. After the introduction of the Alfa Pendular HST some even terminate in Porto. After a while a new and a lot smaller rail terminal for local rail traffic was build which left the old station abandoned. Our dear friend Ana told us while we walked throuigh it that the rails were lifted a few years ago and that some office space is still used by national railway company CP.28007335 N00 has added EstaA A o abandonado at 2012 06 09 10 30 41 and tagged as stainedglass
