Architect MAYnsson DahlbA ck Arkitektkontor Built in 1987 1990 Client The Vasa Museum Swedish Vasamuseet is a maritime museum in Stockholm, Sweden. The museum displays the only almost fully intact 17th century ship that has ever been salvaged. The 64 gun warship Vasa sank on her maiden voyage in 1628. In 1981, the Swedish government decided that a permanent Vasa museum was to be constructed and an architects competition for the design of the museum building was organized and the final winners were Marianne DahlbA ck and GA ran MAYnsson with their contest entry called, a Box Swedish Ask . The museum is dominated by a large copper roof with stylized masts that represent the actual height of Vasa when she was fully rigged. Parts of the building are covered in wooden panels painted in dark red, blue, black, yellow and dark green. The interior is similarly decorated, with large sections of bare, unpainted concrete, including the entire ceiling. The building is one of the Swedish post modern architecture s most noted works. The original architects GA ran MAYnsson and Marianne DahlbA ck have now desiged an extension together with Berg Architects, which is under construction. Awards This building was awarded the Kasper Salin Prize in 1990 shared prize with Klarahuset, Stockholm, by NyrA ns Arkitektkontor AB The Kasper Salin Prize Swedish Kasper Salinpriset is a prize awarded annually by the Swedish Association of Architects to a Swedish building or building project of high architectural standard . It has been awarded since 1962 and was founded with money from a donation by the city architect of Stockholm Kasper Salin 1856 1919 .
