Inspired by the architectural style of the Dvina River Region of NW Russia during the Middle Ages. Traditionally, builders would use an entire larch tree, including root ball, as the roof ridge for holding up the roofing structure. The root ball was then hatchet carved into a stallion s head, ram or hen, and would bring good luck and safety to all who lived under it s protection. This was known as an Okhlupen. This okhlupen, at Zakopane in the Sierras, is hand carved from 350 year old reclaimed re processed TEAK from old farmhouses on the island of Java, as are the carved braided fascia and bibb detail.78681559 N04 has added Okhlupen at 2012 01 06 11 09 06 and tagged as wyntoon
