The A.S. Onderwijzerhof is a typical example of Amsterdam social housing from the 1980 s. The city was losing inhabitants and budgets were low. The style isn t particularly beloved which will doubtlessly translate in the number of views from the Flickr community . The houses cannot be easily transfered into shops or offices if the need arises, as happened with late 19th century buildings in many areas of the city. The A.S. Onderwijzerhof is located in the city centre next to the Jewish Museum. The area used to be part of the Jewish Quarter of the former self proclaimed Jerusalem of the West . After the inhabitants were deported, many of the houses were practically demolished by citizens looking for firewood during the infamous hunger winter . In the 1970 s the remaining buildings had to make way for an underground railway line.88309070 N04 has added Amsterdam, A.S.
