The interior of Ghanerao Castle fits right in with the crumbling outside. I had a very strong sense that this place was not built for tourists, but rather for powerful people from a long time ago. We felt like we were guests, stepping into history. There is a very personal and informal feeling to the rooms. Statues of Hindu Gods are placed next to old photographs of members of the Royal family. There are pictures of children playing in the courtyard, and old men sitting on pillows smoking a hookah, attended by servants. The fabric on the furniture is slightly worn. It all works very well together. The word authentic comes to mind.
